This is my latest favorite face mask.
It's quick and easy to make with only three common ingredients, and it leaves your skin moisturized, deliciously tightened, and with a healthy glow.
It smells of fresh cucumber, with a grainy texture.
Cucumber, oatmeal, and honey is a pretty effective combo when it comes to skincare.
Oats for Beautiful Skin
Oats are rich in a substance called mucilage, and they are packed with vitamins, minerals, and lipids that provide moisture and other beneficial things that help make your skin more healthy, bouncy, and glowing.
Mucilage is a thick, gluey substance produced by almost all plants. It's anti-inflammatory and enhances the skin's ability to retain moisture and stay hydrated for longer, which is crucial in maintaining a youthful complexion.
Mucilage also has a beneficial effect on burns and wounds.
The best way to use oats in skincare is by grinding them into a fine powder, also called colloidal oatmeal.
Colloidal oatmeal softens or soothes the skin, and is an excellent eczema remedy too. It calms irritated skin, binds to your skin, and strengthen your skin's barrier function.
Cucumbers for a fresh look
Cucumbers are first and foremost known for their tightened (astringent) properties and for being able to reduce small swellings, puffiness, and dark circles.
Cucumbers also have anti-inflammatory properties and are packed with antioxidants, and nutrients like vitamin C and folic acid make them an excellent ingredient in homemade face masks.
Moreover, the antioxidant components in cucumbers may have anti-wrinkle properties.
All these cucumber components help your skin look firmer and healthier.
Honey for Balanced Skin
Raw, unpasteurized honey helps balance the bacteria on your skin and is a good remedy for impurities and acne.
Raw honey speeds up the skin cells' healing. It lessens inflammatory conditions such as eczema and acne.
Honey is also slightly exfoliating. When you use it on your face, it can help eliminate dead skin cells and reveal brighter skin.
Recipe: Cucumber, oatmeal, and honey face mask for moist, tight, and glowing skin.
Props:
Mini chopper, food processor, or stick blender.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup rolled oats (or 2 tbsp. oatmeal)
1/4 cucumber (unpeeled)
1 tsp. raw honey
Directions:
Blend the rolled oats into flour in a mini chopper, stick blender, or food processor. Set aside.
Blend the cucumber in the mini food processor until it’s the consistency of a watery paste.
Add 2 tbsp of oatmeal and honey to the mixture.
Blend until smooth.
Apply the mixture over your face and neck, and massage gently with your fingertips.
Let the mask sit on your skin for 10-15 minutes.
Rinse the mask off with a washcloth and lukewarm water.
Pat your face dry with a soft cloth.
Tip! The mask gets quite sticky, so it's a bit difficult to wash off with a flannel. I suggest that you apply the mask before the shower and then use the dip to rinse it off.
