Clear and luminous skin with this powerful facemask.
This green fusion of antioxidant-rich raw cocoa, healing charcoal, mineral-rich clays, and exotic warm spices go deep into the skin to provide you with more radiant skin.
It’s an intense treatment mask that effectively purifies and tightens pores, reduces inflammations, fights and heals blemishes, and jumpstarts circulation in the epidermis.
Granted - this is a recipe with a lot of ingredients. But there are no right and wrongs here. You can use the recipe as inspiration and make your version.
If you have some clay, a few good spices, and maybe some pure raw cocoa, you can make yourself a really good facial mask.
This mask is one I make a large portion of a few times a year.
We are dealing with pure natural ingredients here, so be aware that spices and clays often hide many bacteria. So, I recommend that you only use fresh, dried spices from unopened packaging.
About the ingredients
French Green Clay:
French green clay typically originates from France. It is also called illite.
Off the southern coast of France, you can find large deposits of this very mineral-rich clay. The clay has its green color from a combination of iron oxides and decomposed matter — typically algae or chlorophyll.
The more vibrant green the clay is, the more valuable it’s considered to be.
In addition to the components that give the clay its green color, it contains lots of other minerals such as magnesium, calcium, potassium, manganese, phosphorus, aluminum, silicon, zinc, cobalt, copper, selenium.
It is believed that French green clay has a naturally negative electrical charge that will attach to positively charged toxins on your skin, in the bloodstream, or the intestine (negativ charge is positive).
Skin benefits of French Green Clay:
Cleanses and draws out impurities from pores.
Exfoliating dead skin cells
Toning and firming
Stimulates circulation
Help treat blemishes.
Ease stressed skin.
Soothes minor wounds, burns, cuts, insect bites, and sore muscles.
Suitable for sensitive skin.
Kaolin Clay:
Kaolin clay is one of the gentlest clays. This light, white clay cleanses and removes impurities without irritating. It gently exfoliates and stimulates your skin and helps remove the excess sebum that can cause acne.
Kaolin contains a high silica content that helps remove the dead skin and make it regenerate. This also purifies and detoxes the skin and makes it moist. It has unique minerals and phytonutrients present, which helps eliminate toxin and oil from the skin.
Hibiscus Flowers:
Hibiscus is a natural source of alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs). AHAs help exfoliate skin, speed up cell turnover, and control acne breakouts, all of which can encourage fresher, younger, and smoother-looking skin. Hibiscus also increases moisture and improves flexibility and elasticity.
On top of the AHA-activity are the antioxidants "anthocyanocides." These antioxidants not only protect the skin from free radical damage they also have astringent properties that help pores appear smaller. They have an anti-inflammatory effect, soothes inflamed skin, and helps calm conditions like eczema and psoriasis.
Hibiscus is also a great moisturizer because it's rich in that mucilage. This high mucilage content in the Hibiscus enhances the skin's ability to retain moisture and stay hydrated, soft, and supple for longer, which is crucial in maintaining a youthful complexion and keeping dry, dull skin at bay. Mucilage also has a beneficial effect on burns and wounds.

Recipe: Spicy Green DIY Facial Mask
Props:
Mini chopper, food processor, or stick blender.
A large mixing bowl.
PPE: consider wearing a face mask - because it’s a dusty arrangement to deal with.
Maybe disposable gloves (turmeric colors your fingers for a while).
Ingredients:
1 cup Green Clay
1 cup Kaolin clay
1/4 cup Vitamin C powder
1/4 cup Raw Cocoa Powder
1/4 cup Activated charcoal (I prefer capsules - minimizing bacteria)
1/4 cup Lavender flowers (dried)
1/4 cup Hibiscus flowers (dried)
1/4 cup Angelica root (powdered)
1 tbsp Baking soda
1 tbsp Cinnamon
1 tbsp Turmeric (I use 6 capsules)
1 tbsp Cloves (powdered)
1 tbsp Vanilla
1 tsp Nutmeg (powdered)
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp Cayenne
Directions:
Blend the flowers, roots and spices that are not already powered in a mini chopper, stick blender, or food processor.
Mix it with all the rest of the powders in a large mixing bowl.
Keep your mix in an air-tight container.
How to use:
Mix 1 tbsp. of the powder with 1 tbsp. of water and 1-2 drops of oil.
Massage over skin and relax for 10 to 45 minutes.
Expect a warm and tingling sensation.
Rinse off with water or use a dark colour cloth to wipe off.
Tip! The mask gets quite sticky, so it's a bit difficult to wash off with a flannel. I suggest that you apply the mask before the shower and then use the dip to rinse it off.
